THz sources and detectors

Carcinotrons

The BWO (backward wave oscillator), also called a carcinotron, is a vacuum tube used to generate radiofrequency radiation up to THz frequencies. Carcinotron life is limited due to lamp filament wear. Spectral width of the line is around 20MHz.

VDI AMC sources

Electronic sources of radiation in the 70GHz – 1THz frequency range are composed of frequency synthesizers and Amplification and Multiplication Chains (AMC). Radiation polarisation is lineair.
