The TOP platform is led by Frédéric Teppe (L2C) and Jérémie Torres (IES).
The project by the joint Terahertz Spectroscopy team and the Terahertz Platform is the result of a long-standing collaboration between teams at the Institut d’Électronique du Sud and the Laboratoire Charles Coulomb conducting research in terahertz (THz) frequency-domain spectroscopy. This project is part of a (inter)national effort to bring together research and development centers for interdisciplinary research.
The Montpellier site is one of the few in France to possess all the necessary expertise to conduct research focused on THz technologies, as evidenced by more than 400 publications since 2001 and technology transfer activities, including the creation of the startup Terakalis (formerly T-Waves Technologies).
The THz platform, which resulted from the merger of the THz activities of the Charles Coulomb Laboratory and the Institute of Electronics and Systems, significantly enhances collaboration between the fields of
- Physics,
- Electronics
- Biology
- Agronomy
- Health
by bringing together various local stakeholders around a theme focused on the study of living organisms.
The work already carried out highlights the value of the new spectroscopic techniques developed by leveraging the expertise within the MIPS community (the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, and Systems at the University of Montpellier) for electronic and optoelectronic systems operating at THz frequencies.
The objectives of the joint Terahertz Spectroscopy team:
- explore new scientific and technological avenues to design and improve the THz components and systems of the future;
- coordinate research in the THz field in the Occitanie region;
- serve as a showcase for research and development in France in the THz field;
- stimulate interest in these technologies among local and national manufacturers and help them integrate them into their R&D strategies;
- train a new generation of students in the Occitanie region, from bachelor’s to PhD level, in these emerging fields.
